Today’s car industry is facing difficult times regarding its future and how to make cars better and efficient. Environmental problem is one of the considerations in designing custom cars. Today most cars still run on gas and diesel, these cause pollutants in the air. People today are now aware about global warming and its effects on our environment. There are now government and private agencies monitoring carbon dioxide emissions of cars. This will be strictly implemented in the future so car manufacturers are given time to comply with the requirements. In Europe they are planning to restrict carbon dioxide emissions to 130 g per kilometre driven by the car. This is a problem for car manufacturers because most of them are still way above the limits.
Custom cars will now be designed to lower carbon dioxide emissions. If companies can’t comply then they could be facing big penalties on their violations. Car manufacturers are now working together trying to share technologies on how to lower their emissions. Comparing emissions from previous years, most companies have lowered their levels already, although meeting the 130 g carbon dioxide per kilometre drive is still a challenge for most of them. Many companies are still developing their technologies meaning they are really trying their best to comply. The next generation cars are expected to be environment friendly.
There are no choices for the car manufacturers this time. Their custom cars must be environment friendly because that is what the world needs right now. A technology that will make cars not too dependent on fuels which make the environment polluted. Most developed cities are heavily polluted and efforts are being made to reduce pollutants in the air, and one of them is regulating emissions from the car. A technology was developed long ago and is slowly being introduced in the market. Custom cars are now using batteries which can be recharged as their main source of energy. Future cars will work in this direction and improve further the electric cars. Their main problem is how to create good batteries that can last for longer times and longer mileage. In some countries, this program is supported and they fund researches to find solutions in making the electric car more efficient and economically better.
Environmentally speaking the electric cars are better because there will be no carbon dioxide emissions. The problem right now is how to sustain and make it attractive for people to use it. A custom electric car right now is very expensive and in Japan the government is spending money subsidizing it. For poor countries this will be a big problem because how can they afford it. Countries should work together in dealing with this project and help each other especially those countries not capable of financing electric cars. Another problem is on how to make electric cars run longer. Technologies are now focusing on making batteries that will last longer. These batteries should be environment friendly also because disposing them will be a big problem in the future. Several charging stations should be made available similar to the gas stations right now to assure the public that charging will not be a problem for this type of car at car swap meets.
Custom cars should be designed to help the environment and not add on its current polluted situation. It is good that countries are initiating development and companies are trying their best to comply on restrictions. It will be very hard to totally remove the dependency of cars on fuels especially in poor countries but if companies can lower their emissions then it will be very helpful.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen, short for Geländewagen (or cross-country vehicle), is a four-wheel drive vehicle / sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced by German automaker Mercedes-Benz. A major reason to start development was the need of the German Army for a light military vehicle. Without any joint test the cheaper Volkswagen Iltis were chosen, but since 1990 it is replaced by the G-Class “Wolf” and LAPV Enok. After a design change to a civilian cross-country vehicle in co-operation with the Austrian car manufacturer Steyr-Daimler-Puch, production of the G-Class began in 1979 with the 460 Series models.[2] The G-Class has been sold under the Puch name in certain markets, and the Peugeot P4 is a variant made under license, with a Peugeot engine and different parts.

Mercedes-Benz secured military contracts for the vehicle in the late 1970s and offered a civilian version in 1979. Designed to be a durable, reliable, and rugged off-roader, the G-wagen utilizes three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles sold in the U.S. to have such a feature, along with the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Toyota 80-series Land Cruiser, Pinzgauer High Mobility All-Terrain Vehicle, and Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Among the engines offered in the G-Class for the 2004 model year is a 5.5-liter V8.

Short Review of the Mecedes SLS Amg

The Mercedes-Benz CLS is an executive-size sedan based on the W211 E-Class platform. Marketed as a ‘four door coupe,’ the CLS recalls the fastback saloon designs of Robert Opron (born 1932) in the 1970s but is actually the work of the influential American automotive designer, Michael Fink (born 1967) who styled the first CLK, the C-Sportcoupe’, and is known as the stylist who penned the Maybach 57 and 62 respectively. According to a Mercedes-Benz press release, the CLS-class was produced to combine the “strong, emotive charisma” of a coupe with the “comfort and practicality” of a saloon. Save for its four-door design, the CLS’s design tends towards a coupe, as its sleek roofline reduces the rear passenger room to a 2+2 arrangement, and it offers a smaller selection of engines tending towards high powered of the range, compared to contemporary sedans such as the E-Class.

There are certain cars that tell us in one look that they are average and not the best car that we would desire to be seen driving in. But there are other vehicles that ooze an air of splendor and the instant you peek at it you understand it is the car that you have alwayd dreamed of. One of these vehicles is the brand Mercedes-Benz GLK 350.

This is the first premium compact crossover SUV that Mercedes-Benz has ever produced. Though the GLK 350 may be a bit more solid than what we are used to seeing from them it does not disappoint us. The platform for this SUV was built on the standard C-class sedan.

So why did Mercedes choose to construct an SUV? “We needed a car like the GLK 350,” sales representative Mark Leonard said. “It’s designed to go head-to-head with the BMW X3 and it is doing a fantastic job.”

The SUV was first debuted earlier this year and is planned to be a 2010 model version. It has already gathered much media attention because of its unique design and the starting price that Mercedes-Benz has set for it. Many people were expecting to see a high number – but were surprised when the business set it at a low $33,900. This will most definitely be in the running for the affordable SUV on the market and may be able to overpass the X3 in price alone.

The GLK is outfitted with a 3.5 liter V6 engine and joined with a seven speed automatic transmission. Together the two work in harmony and allow for a smooth but powerful drive. It is simpler then before to speed up the car and it has the ability to reach 60 MPH in only 6.9 seconds.

If you wish to choose the premium packet you will be given a panorama sunroof, power liftgate, media upgrade package, heated front seats, and memory settings for mirrors, steering wheel, and the driver’s seat. You will also be given numerous of the more favorite characteristics that include power assist, dual zone automatic climate control, eight CD sound system, and a trip computer. Mercedes also supplied the standard safety features to every model.

In the interest of Public, safety rules need to be followed on the road. Since the roads are largely meant for transportation of goods and man from one place to another all the nations of the world have come to realize the importance of drivers training of vehicles that ply on the roads. There are different road training organizations that impart different training to drivers of different vehicles. The aim is to train drivers to use more economical and safer methods of driving on roads and to reduce fuel consumption while driving.

Formal Education of Driver

In driver training the new driver is given a formal education to obtain a driver’s license. The drivers are instructed on traffic code and operating a vehicle inside the classroom. Training schools give training to the young drivers on how to drive an automobile under high speed driving conditions. The driver’s training are accompanied by veteran instructors along with different cars on the road until they are finally approved as trained drivers capable of driving on their own. In the classroom key concepts regarding driving on road are explained with audio visual effects so that learning becomes easier with the practical experience.

Training School

In the training schools the trainers are authorized drivers who can impart all knowledge about driving to the student under various circumstances of the road. The students are instructed about the parts of the automobile along with the guidelines of dealing with these parts and their working. Their physical stress is also taken into account and is made aware of overcoming such stress.

Many people long to have a car. Brand new cars are very expensive and a person may not afford them in an instant. However, there is another option, and that is opting for used cars which are normally cheaper.

Once a person has bought a used car, there are ways that they can improve them. This may be a person’s first car. It should therefore be well taken care of. The good news is that changes to the car can be made slowly as you go on using it.

First, change the outside color and give it a fresh coat of paint which will make it look as good as new. Then moving to the interior, a person may decide to change the car seats giving it a whole new look. A trip to the garage is without a doubt handy. The reason for this is to let the mechanic look at the engine. Being used cars, there is a high probability that there will be a few problems with the car. These should be sorted out easily since it will be handled by professionals. Since most people have the tendency of neglecting a car because it is a used car, you should not follow suit since your main objective is to make it last. Give the car special treatment, by changing the oil regularly, auto detailing it and taking it to the garage from time to time.

Lastly, learn to love the car as this will give you more responsibility over it as you will be very careful when using it. A good tip when buying used cars is to look for a car that is in good condition. Do not go buying a very old car that you will end up spending so much money repairing compared to buying a brand new one.

Donating your car to charity can be a worthy pursuit that rewards you with a feeling of goodwill and some small tax benefits at the end of the tax year. Before donating your car to a charity, there are ten things you should know to make the donation benefit everyone involved.

1. When you donate your car to a charity, you will need to get a receipt for tax purposes. This receipt should have the name of the organization, contact information, the organization’s tax identification number, and the signature of an authorized representative. Keep this receipt handy for filing your tax return and file it carefully in case you should ever be audited by the Internal Revenue Service.

2. You’ll need to keep your car in good condition in order to donate it to a charity. Just like you wouldn’t want to drive a car that is not in good condition, a charity does not want to have to deal with a car that is in bad condition.

3. Keeping your car clean is an important part of taking care of it. Make sure you wash your car regularly and keep the interior free of dust and dirt.

4. Donating your car to a charity must be carefully researched. Make sure you find an organization that is a legitimate nonprofit organization or your donation will not be recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. You would then lose out on any tax benefits anticipated from donating your car.

5. You can find a legitimate charity that accepts car donations by using a number of resources. Check online by using the search terms ?car donation? or ?donating cars to charity.? You can also check with local associations to find opportunities.

6. Talk with an accountant or tax advisor to determine the benefits of donating your car for your particular situation.

7. Get the best value for your car by keeping it in good condition. This will allow you to reap the biggest tax benefits.

8. Be sure to keep all documentation for your car so the new owner will have information on maintenance and car specifications.

9. Take all of your belongings out of the car before donating it to charity. This will make it easier for the charity to get the car in good condition for the cars auction.

10. Finally, keep the true spirit of car donation in mind as you go through the process. Be cooperative with nonprofit staff members and keep in mind how your donation will improve someone else’s life.

It is quite common for all of us to want to save money and one of the best ways to do this is by finding a used truck rather than spending a fortune on a new truck. There are a lot of used trucks that will allow you to do just the same as with a new truck so this is why you may want to consider getting a used pickup truck.

You can save a lot of money on by simply getting a used truck rather than a brand new one. There are a lot of people who can get a used truck for less than half the costs of a new one and at times they may even be able to find one for much less than that.

Used trucks are a great way to find a great way to get around town and not have to worry about monthly payments. You can easily get a used truck and you may decide that it is one of the best for you to drive and can be a great way to save money in the process.

Used trucks can offer you a lot of things but you will want to weigh out the advantages versus the disadvantages of both. It is very surprising how clear things can be when you give this a try. It can help to give you an idea of where you should spend the money.

As with many things there are bad and good things to consider, so you will certainly want to take the time to see if a used truck will make you as content as possible or if ou should consider a new one. However, you can certainly count on saving a lot of money when you purchase a used truck versus a new one that is for certain.

Mercedes is one of the finest luxury cars in the world. Mercedes Xenon lights are the best lighting technology to complement the luxury offered by the car. Night driving has been simplified over the years with the changing lighting technologies. You need not frown upon conventional halogen lights while you start on the night drive. Xenon lights are very powerful and are here to stay.

Xenon lights produce as high as twice the amount of lights halogen bulbs produce. While producing such bright light, they do not use so much more of power but in fact use only half the power than halogen bulbs. The advanced features of xenon lights are making them very popular in the automobile industry. Luxury cars such as Mercedes are quickly changing over to Xenon lights. The luxury seems incomplete without the use of such powerful lights.

Xenon lights are gaining acceptance because of the bright light they produce. The white light they emit closely resembles natural daylight. Night driving is feared by many because of the poor light ordinary headlamps emit, which causes strain on the eyes. With the clear white light of Xenon bulbs, the stress associated with the strain on the eyes is completely eliminated. By installing Mercedes Xenon lights, you will look forward to the luxury drives at night.

Mercedes Xenon lights are a must have safety feature for your luxury car. With these lights, it becomes so easy to read the road markings and signs at night. They focus very sharply on the objects thereby making it simple for you to locate obstacles at night. Without such powerful lights, you are in fact taking a high risk traveling on unlit roads at night. Poor visibility is one of the major factors causing accidents. You can eliminate this one factor completely by installing the Xenon lights.

Xenon lights have also undergone technological advancements from the time they were introduced in the market. Some of these lights come with a cleaning system for the headlights. Some also have an automatic leveling system, which adjusts the swivel of the headlamp projector when the vehicle traverses along a curved path. There are also advanced technologies in these lights, which bends the beam in line with the angle of the steering wheel. All these advancements only ensure a safer night drive for you.

Mercedes Xenon lights can be purchased from online stores that sell after market products. It can be bought as a kit, which is easy to install. It is so easy that you can install it on your own. They are more expensive than halogen bulbs. The higher price is offset by the many better features it has. Better vision at night, which aids in reducing the probability of accidents, can never be compared to the price. Your Mercedes car is meant for luxury. Then why compromise on the lighting it has? After all your Mercedes, like you, deserves only the best. Xenon lights are the best in the lighting world and installing them will help you experience greater heights of luxury.

How about joining me on long drive up the hill? Come from the right to the front seat. I have just switched on the engine. Do you hear it? Sit comfortably and fasten your seat belt. Though you are 6′ 6″ tall you are sitting comfortably in the front seat. Please shut the door softly, I shall lock the doors with the central locking. Are you fascinated by the pickup? In 5 sec it has developed a speed of 67 mph from zero. No wonder it is Mercedes CL600.

Are you tense about the lamb crossing the road? Don’t worry. The car has stopped and the lamb is safe. Sip a soft drink. Do you see a dangerous U-bend and already we are crossing it. Did you feel the bump while crossing the speed breaker? Do you feel like sailing on a canoe in a silent pond? I can understand your interest in knowing more technical details about the Mercedes CL600. CL stands for comfort light.

The manufacturer of this automobile is Mercedes-Benz, the German automaker. Mercedes CL600 is a high-performance car ideal for long-distance driving. The suspensions are soft so you never feel the bump even while crossing the speed breaker. The wheel base of the CL series is slightly shorter than the S-class sedan. CL class offers smaller engine selection leaning towards a high power range.

Mercedes CL600 is driven by a twin-turbocharged 5.5 L V12, 36 valve engine. The torque produced in this car is 800 N-m and the power of the engine is 380 KW. Mercedes CL600 has a standard rear wheel drive. It also features the four wheel drive which helps the car climb steep heights comfortably. The rear passenger capacity of the CL series is spacious enough to brand this car in 2-door sedans. Mercedes CL600 is a full-sized coupe that offers the driver engine power and luxury accommodation. I have paid only around $ one hundred thousand for this beauty machine.

Do you feel the soft leather seats? How about climate control features of the car? Shall I decrease the RH so that you feel more comfortable? Did you notice the latest navigation system that helps you locate the car’s position? With its help and guidance you can reach your destination without a problem. This car has a 5 speed automated transmission which enables a top speed of 155 mph. On a highway, this car covers 17 miles with one gallon of fuel and gives a mileage of 11 mpg in city.

Mercedes CL600 has a fully active suspension, which eliminates body roll during certain driving situations including cornering, accelerating, and sudden stopping. Around 13 sensors fixed through the vehicle enables the computer to detect body movement during sudden change of speed and control with the use of hydraulic servomechanisms. Now I shall push this long-travel accelerator to the floor and can you feel like the takeoff in an aircraft. Mercedes CL600 is nimble while cornering, and the quality of ride exquisite at all speeds.

At the present speed of 134 mph, your face has turned pale worrying about safety. Mercedes CL600 has advanced safety features such as side-curtain airbags, active head restraints and airbag occupancy sensors. Prevention of accidents is the main concern of the Mercedes CL600 manufacturer. Crash test results conducted by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) stand testimony to the improvisation of safety measures with regard to travelling in Mercedes CL600.

We have reached your destination before time and safely thanks to Mercedes CL600.

When considering a new automobile purchase or lease, safety features are top of mind, especially for families. Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW C-Class sedans have comparable pricing in the $31000 to $65500 range, and similar safety features. The top three automobile safety features for C-Class sedans are airbags, brake systems, and seat belts. For Mercedes-Benz India, Audi, and BMW sedans, all in the same MSRP range, the three models are similar on these safety features with a couple of notable exceptions.

MSRP Price Range $32900 to $55300 The Mercedes-Benz has 6 driver and passenger airbags,4 wheel anti-lock braking system, Neck-Pro crash-responsive head restraints, 3-point driver and front passenger shoulder belts, including height adjustment, emergency tensioning, adaptive belt force limiter, rear 3-point seat belts, including outboard emergency tensioning, outboard belt force limiter, and outboard automatic height.

MSRP Price Range $31000 to $58000 The Audi has driver, passenger, side head, and rear head air bags, passenger airbag on/off switch, traction control, front 3-point seat belts, including auto pretensioners and belt force limiters, and rear 3-point seat belts with auto pretensioners. MSRP Price Range $33600 to $66500 The BMW has driver, passenger, side head, and rear head air bags, passenger airbag on/off switch, 4 wheel ABS, traction control, brake assist, all-position 3-point safety belts, including front pretensioners, ALR in all passenger positions, and latch attachments for rear seats.

While all three models have 3-point seat belts, the Audi does not have 4 wheel anti-lock braking system as do the other two, and both the Audi and BMW have head airbags where the Mercedes has airbags and crash-responsive head restraints. Although not protecting as wide an area as curtain airbags, head airbags do offer extra protection during crashes by deploying between the head and window, but head restraints are reusable and can be reset after being deployed. Anti-lock brake systems provide extra control and improved safety in difficult braking situations.

Mercedes-Benz offers a reusable head protection feature that protects head, neck, and spine in the event of a crash, as well as airbags, a 4 wheel anti-lock braking system, and 3-point safety belts for driver and passenger protection. For the price range it falls into, Mercedes-Benz offers the added value of a unique standard safety feature not offered in other similar c-class sedans, even higher-priced models. When considering c-class sedan style, price, performance, and safety, the Mercedes-Benz provides a safety advantage to drivers and passengers.

Some car crashes cannot be avoided and serious injury or death can follow. Please read what Mercedes-Benz is doing to help prepare vehicle occupants moments before a crash occurs.

Volvo has long been attributed with being the number one automobile manufacturer when it comes to vehicular safety and rightly so. As an inventor of “crumple zones” and “safety cages” to protect passengers, Volvo set the tone for worldwide auto building for the next several generations. Indeed, the auto industry owes much to Volvo’s many safety contributions. Not to be lost in all of this is the work that Mercedes-Benz has been doing to improve passenger safety too. Taking the Volvo concept one step further, Mercedes now incorporates several technological advances with their vehicles in order to provide the safest riding experience available. Let’s take a look at Mercedes’ PRE-SAFE system and how it can protect you and your passengers.

I must admit that the first time I heard about Mercedes’ new safety system I had thought that it was something that was still years away from becoming available. How wrong I was! The PRE-SAFE system, as it is called, is a terrific way to enhance passenger safety and one that should be adopted by other automakers. Yes, I am sure that it isn’t a cheap system but as it is with so many technological advances the price is bound to drop and the system or something like it will become widely available across the board.

Introduced with select Mercedes models in 2003, the PRE-SAFE system automatically kicks in moments before a collision. All it takes is a panic stop or a skid and the system is set in motion; here is what occupants can expect moments before a crash occurs:

Snug in place. Passenger seat belts automatically tighten to prepare occupants for a crash.

Snug in place, part two. Along with the seat belts, air cushions on the sides of the seats inflate to keep people in position.

Seat movements. Headrests and seats automatically move to predetermined positions that provide optimum protection for occupants.

Close it up. Windows automatically shut to offer the best support for side-curtain air bags and cars equipped with a moon roof will find that it has closed up in the event of a rollover.

Since its introduction, PRE-SAFE has been expanded to additional Mercedes models and the original technology is constantly being tweaked and improved upon.

New technology being developed by Mercedes includes the development of a radar sensor to track vehicles running a red light and slamming into your car. Once this technology has been readied, it will take the PRE-SAFE system one step further and offer occupants one more way to avoid serious injury.

So, is Volvo behind in the development of crash preparation technology? Not a chance. Volvo released its Whiplash Protection Seating System in 2000 that prepares passengers for a rear hit by adjusting the seating position to minimize impact. In addition, the company is working on a radar system that can detect when a driver drifts out of his lane. This feature will also utilize an electronic eye to keep an eye on blind spots not seen through the side mirrors.

Ultimately, a defensive driver is the best driver, but there are times when situations are completely out of your control. Mercedes’ PRE-SAFE system is certain to be a big help and is likely to reduce serious injuries and even prevent some deaths. Technology at its best!

Mercedes-Benz is a trusted name and the benchmark by which so many cars have long been judged. Finding the right replacement parts for your Daimler vehicle can be tricky and costly, but it can be done.

Owning a Mercedes vehicle puts you in with an elite category of owners who appreciate the engineering, quality, comfort, and fun-to-drivability that go with every “Benz” produced. With a history spanning well over one hundred years and a solid benchmark reputation to preserve, Mercedes continues to impress its loyal owners and attract interest from those who do not yet own a Mercedes.

Beyond ownership is the maintenance that is done to preserve your vehicle’s mojo. You know keeping your Mercedes well maintained can go a long way toward helping your car operate problem free as well as looking great. Trouble is, parts can get expensive…you’ll pay a premium if you have some garage or dealer do the work for you. Fortunately, you have some options – terrific ones at that – to find, procure, and install the high quality parts your Mercedes deserves without destroying your budget. Please keep reading for some helpful tips.

Owning a Mercedes is just like owning a piece of automotive history. It was back in the 1880s when two German craftsmen, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz, began working on what became known as the first internal combustion engine. Soon thereafter the first “Daimler” vehicles were produced and were later renamed “Mercedes” due to legal conflicts with the Daimler name. Eventually, Daimler and rival automaker Benz merged to produce the Mercedes-Benz name that we know today. Yes, the parent company is now known as DaimlerChrysler but to Mercedes owners calling their cars a Mercedes-Benz is still common even though the Benz name isn’t typically ascribed to specific vehicles, especially in the U.S.

Beyond its history are the vehicles defining Mercedes, particularly those built in the last quarter of a century. In the important U.S. market, Mercedes has registered strong growth with new vehicle sales growth of more than 350% since 1993. An expanded product line and a desire by motorists to own and care for finer automobiles has been a big part of the Mercedes sales surge. New models, including an SUV and compact cars have fueled much of the growth as consumers flock from traditional American and European brands to Mercedes. Mercedes’ legendary quality is an important attraction as their line of diesel powered vehicles typically last for several hundred thousand miles. Indeed, it isn’t unheard of for diesel Mercedes owners to brag about their cars having passed the 500,000 mile mark.

Mercedes attributes much of their success to the design and craftsmanship put into every car. The company is very careful whom they choose to produce OEM parts relying on trusted names such as Bosch, Hengst, Mann, ACM, Conti, and others to outfit their vehicles. Expensive parts, mind you, but well worth it…you drive a Mercedes!

Of course, if you are like many Mercedes aficionados who enjoy working on their own vehicles, you are in good company. In times past, buying OEM parts meant an expensive trip to your dealer’s parts department or a disappointing visit to your local parts store. Disappointing, as you soon discovered that the only German parts available were for Volkswagens.

Today, your choices have expanded immensely due to the rise of online auto wholesalers such as the Auto Parts Warehouse, who specialize in carrying Mercedes Benz parts. Consumers today are turning on their computers, surfing the ‘net, and finding suppliers who have the parts they need and can ship these parts directly to them. With no middle man mark ups, many of the quality wholesalers are able to supply Mercedes Benz parts at prices well below the prevailing retail rates.

Yes, you have a truly fine and capable vehicle in your Mercedes. You can keep your “Benz” running great and looking its best with genuine OEM parts. Shop around and head down the road to real savings today!

A high quality fleece oil filter make sure this is not paper. Paper filters can break apart. Use an original Mercedes Benz filter or any OEM like Mann or Hengst, they are all fleece.
Crush washer for oil drain plug
A couple of rags in case of spillage for cleanup.

Container to drain oil into.
Container to put used oil filter in.

2. Drive your car until your engine comes up to normal operating temperature. This is important because then more oil can be drained and it will drain faster.

3. Make sure the car is secure by putting it in park and the parking brake on if you are going to be using a jack.

4. Open the hood. When standing in front of your car it is located on the right side of the engine. Open the oil filler cap located on the valve cover as well. Unscrew the oil filter housing cap using a ratchet with an extension connected to the oil filter cap tool.Do not remove it quite yet we will do that later, this will allow oil to drain out of the old oil filter.

5. Now you will have to go underneath your car. If you are using a jack make sure your car is secured by jack stands as well. The plastic plate(s) under the car covering the oil pan is secured by 4-10 screws depending on your car. Remove it and put it to the side.

6. Time to drain the oil. With your 13mm wrench or ratchet you can now remove the drain plug.Be careful the oil will be extremely hot! If you have an ML on some models the oil drain plug is in front of some suspension components. I use a piece of cardboard usually from the carton of oil. Bend it in half so it looks like a V and wedge it so the oil pours onto the cardboard and then into the drain pan. This will save a lot of cleanup later.

As more and more people go online it’s becoming a lot easier to find classic car collectors who are selling used classic car parts form their classic cars. They may have upgraded that part, parting out an old junker, or are just parting with their classic car parts collection. Before the internet, a restorer in search of specific classic car parts had to rely on calling junkyards or looking at trade magazines. Today, you can find many parts on ebay, craigslist, or other classic car classified ad sites. Another useful tool are forums dedicated to the classic car you are restoring. There are many collectors in the forums that will be willing to help you locate those hard to find classic car parts, or at least give you suggestions of where to look.

It seems these days everyone is into going green and it makes someone like me, a hard-core environmentally conscious guy very happy! I have blue boxes all over the place and even do my own composting in the garden.

One place where eco-friendly disposal has been lagging is the automotive industry. Many of you probably don’t even know that you should be aware of where you take your old junk cars to be disposed of? Right?

I recently got rid of my ‘little baby’, a 1989 Ford Mustang and I found out that there is a big difference in methods of disposal depending on which salvage yard you end up going to. Using one that participates in green vehicle disposal is a must if you want to sleep at night know all the toxic fluid were taken care of properly and any mercury was disposed of as per safety regulations.

I actually follow an interesting green blog. You can also do a local Google search to find out any other info you need.

It seems everywhere I look someone is going green, especially here in Ontario where the government now makes all stores charge .05 for bags. I personally don’t mind because I recycle these bags at home by using them again for garbage throughout the house.

Now there is some talk about how a large majority of the recycling we put in our ‘blue boxes’ never gets recycled but just end up in the dump. I will never understand why local government insists on launching environmental initiatives and then is not prepared to carry the cost.

Personally I contributed to the ‘green’ cause this past month by donating my old junk car to charity and had it recycled with a local eco-friendly recycler. I actually took advantage of a great new program called Retire your Ride and got $300 bucks donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Rusty’s Auto Salvage is a national network of Auto Salvage Yard and Junkyards who pay cash for junk cars, then remove them free of charge to environmentally responsible organizations

I have heard lots of great love stories lately, even one about a girl who met her future husband on the highway during a bad traffic jam. My love story started 6 years ago in high school and I have to say it was quite environmentally friendly.

I joined an after-school program called friend of the planet because I needed another half credit to graduate. Before joining I had never even recycled a tin can but after meeting Angie I could not get ‘green’ enough. She taught me the importance of taking care of our planet for the next generation and after I fell in love with her we constantly discussed how important it was to leave the planet in good shape for our future children. We just got married last week and I am a total ‘green convert’ I recycle everything and just recently donated my car to charity to a local auto salvage yard what will actually recycle it by stripping it and selling the used auto parts.

New Ford Fiesta – The Slumdog Millionaire of the Car World?
By Mark Creese

So a British filmmaker who embraced Mumbai has swept all before him in the film award stakes. Slumdog Millionaire has amassed a staggering eight Oscars, seven BAFTAS and four Golden Globes. All from Danny Boyle the man who presented us the heroin induced Ewan McGregor from Trainspotting in the mid nineties. Still to this day there are no trains. It’s safe to say that if any car is the equivalent of Slumdog Millionaire in awards terms it’d be the new Ford Fiesta, which since being launched in October 2008 has had its boot full of gongs and accolades.

Having sold 12 million Fiestas worldwide, when Ford proclaimed the new Fiesta range was “the most significant global vehicle project since the Model T” I’m not ashamed to say I wet myself laughing. I just couldn’t see how Ford could back up this statement with results. If you produce the world’s first production car and then go on to sell 12 million of Europe’s best selling hatchback since it was first made 32 years ago, you’ve every right to be sceptical as to just how they’ll top it.

Plus if you are selling that volume of cars why would you change the design significantly and risk your millions of customers nipping over the road to another dealership? No, I think what Ford really meant was “the most significant global vehicle project since the Model T, because in these times of economic crisis if we don’t shift many we’re broke”. After all the gigantic billboards they had surrounding the London docklands at the British Motorshow last year must’ve blown Kia’s yearly budget away instantly.

The awards are proof that whilst it’s debatable whether or not Ford has unveiled a groundbreaking project, the new car is up to the task of being a good hatchback. Now there’s an even newer, er, new Ford Fiesta, the ECOnetic. It’s clear from the capitalisation of ‘ECO’ that this car intends to be green whichever colour you choose. The old Fiesta was from the ‘New Edge’ school of design and the ECOnetic showcases what Ford is dubbing as ‘Kinetic’ styling. Another grandiose claim backed up with results, the Fiesta really does look like it’s moving when sitting at the kerbside.

A large front grill only interrupted by the number plate greets you head on, whilst the side profile shows off large slashes that sweep from bonnet to boot and give the car a handsome stance. It all goes slightly awry at the back though. The high boot line is fine, as is the subtle roof spoiler and combination of metal and black plastics. Unfortunately if you don’t look at the rear face-on it looks as though an elephant has run into the back of you and you’ve not fixed it. No such concerns with the interior styling where everything is very space-age and well located. The centre console inspired by mobile phone keypads is my favourite touch and is easy to use.

But what of the ECO bit I hear you cry. It’s actually a trim level within the range, like the Ghia or Zetec of old. In this case the suspension has been lowered, wind deflectors added and low rolling resistance tyres fitted – all in the name of boosting fuel economy and reducing emissions. There’s also a green shift indicator light which blinks when it’s most efficient to change gear. Boy racers need not apply. A 1.6 TDC Duratorg engine can be found under the bonnet, but unlike the version found in other Fiestas in the range, this one returns a whopping 76.3mpg combined fuel consumption. Emissions are measly too with just 99g/km CO2 escaping the car. The ECOnetic has been branded the UK’s greenest five door family car and with figures like this who am I to argue? Oh and thanks to those emissions, road tax is a thing of the past with this car too.

The best thing to recommend this car however is that it drives like a ‘normal’ Fiesta, despite the engine fettling, lowered suspension and special tyres. If you hadn’t guessed already, handling like the other Fiestas in the range is a very good thing hence the wealth of awards bestowed on it. Around town it’s light and maneuverable and despite only hitting 111mph, it doesn’t feel uneasy in the outside lane of the motorway.

When you think about it, this car is pretty groundbreaking so maybe Ford was telling the truth after all. Either way, they should have no problem selling them, even with elephant damage.

Mark Creese is a writer and a car enthusiast. He currently writes for the automotive industry. Here he discusses the Brand New Ford Fiesta

Lexus – The Best and Worst Models For 2009
By Boris Badinoff

Lexus offers a quality line up for 2009 but their hybrids are not at all affordable! They offer the LS Hybrid at an unheard of $105,885 and the GS Hybrid at $56,400-okay, let’s all shake out our piggy banks and head for the dealership!

Beyond their hybrids, Lexus does offer up some luxury cars that are great to look at and great to drive. Sadly, this reviewer could find nothing on their website about being environmentally responsible… unless they have it disguised under another name?

We took a look at two of their family sedans, one hybrid and one standard.

2009 Lexus GS 450h Sedan – The Best

Lexus is proud of this puppy and it comes with a price tag you’d expect for a Lexus at $55,800-but it’s a hybrid! It does offer fuel efficiency at 23 miles per gallon and a 3.5 liter, 6 cylinder engine and comes with rear-wheel drive.

This vehicle is stylish, sporty, and comfortable and has dynamics other sedans don’t. It’s ultra quiet and has superb power and provides high driver comfort. The trunk size may not be that big, but this hybrid is cool and exceptional in every way.

Consumers and experts alike rated this sedan as top of the line in its class.

2009 Lexus ES 350 Sedan – The Worst

This Lexus sedan comes in one model the ES 350 and boasts a nice 3.5 liter, 6 cylinder engine with a fuel efficiency of 22 miles per gallon. It’s hard to find something wrong with Lexus vehicles except their price tag, but this vehicle only came in “fair” with the experts.

The six-cylinder engine did have adequate power but the electronic countermeasures cut in too early and too often for this sedan. This model is not offered in a hybrid model and will cost you around $34,000.

Summing Up Lexus

Lexus is innovative and makes quality vehicles with a price tag for the upper class but there should be a manufacturer that does this.

They also cater to the rich when it comes to their hybrid models, which is a vast line-up compared to other automakers. We still would like to know what Lexus is doing beyond hybrids to make their company “green,” but all around, Lexus makes quality sedans that are very luxurious. When you pick up your next Lexus, don’t forget the Lexus extended warranty that will not only increase the value of your Lexus but also offer an extension on the manufacturer’s warranty.

When you make your next Lexus purchase, remember to buy a Lexus extended warranty that will increase the value of your car as well as both resale and trade in values. An extended car warranty company, Warranty Direct has been helping consumers for 28 years and can help you save hundreds of dollars on an extended auto warranty.
